Sterilisation of Covid losses: 2025 as a decisive year for corporations
Following the entry into force of the Liquidity Decree (Decree Law 23/2020), which has been extended several times, and the resulting phenomenon of the so-called “Covid loss sterilization”, corporations were given the opportunity to “freeze” losses relating to the 2020-2022 financial years, derogating from the relevant legislation or postponing the related obligations, while still ensuring the monitor of the financial situation. At present, 2025 marks a key deadline. Losses relating to the 2020 financial year must be covered by the approval of the 2025 financial statements, while directors must ensure the regular management of the company.
